Pick one. Do it well.
01EngineeringBuild a Builder Card web app from a GitHub username.Limited AI
Task
Build a small “Builder Card” web app. The user enters a GitHub username and sees a profile card with their top repos, main languages and recent activity. Deploy it on Vercel, Netlify or any free host. Use any stack.
Limited AI help is OK (looking things up, debugging, small snippets), but write the core logic yourself. You'll walk us through every line on the call.
Submit
GitHub repo link, live link, and a short note on your approach and time taken.
We look for
It works, clean code, sensible handling of errors (wrong username, rate limits), and a clear README.
02DesignDesign a builder's profile screen for the Hackyard app.No AI
Task
We're building the Hackyard app (app.hackyard.org), where builders connect, share what they ship and track their progress. Sign up and try it first.
Then design one mobile screen: a builder's profile showing streaks, projects shipped and hackathons attended. Use Figma or any tool with a shareable link.
Submit
Design link, and a short note on your approach and time taken.
We look for
Clear hierarchy, a design that makes builders want to show it off, and reasons behind your choices.
03Content & MarketingWrite 3 posts and a short video script about Build 2026.No AI
Task
Write 3 LinkedIn/X posts and 1 short video script (under 60 seconds) about Hackyard Build 2026.
For material, search “Hackyard” on LinkedIn, where many participants, judges and partners have shared their experience publicly, and check Hackyard's own social media channels. Optional bonus: record and edit the video.
Submit
Google Doc link with the posts and script, an optional video link, and a short note on your approach and time taken.
We look for
Strong hooks, real stories instead of generic hype, and writing that fits each platform.
04Partnerships & SalesPick 5 sponsors and write the first cold email. No AI
Task
Pick 5 companies that should sponsor Hackyard's next event. For each, write 2–3 lines on why they fit and which role you'd contact (role only, not personal details). Then write the first cold email to one of them.
Submit
Google Doc/Sheet link, and a short note on your approach and time taken.
We look for
Smart company choices, a clear “what’s in it for them”, and a short, specific email.
05Events & OperationsPlan a 1-day, 50-person mini hackathon on ₹50,000.No AI
Task
Plan a 1-day, 50-person mini hackathon at a college with a ₹50,000 budget. Include:
- A budget breakdown
- A 4-week timeline
- A day-of checklist
- The top 3 risks and how you'd handle them
Submit
Google Doc/Sheet link, and a short note on your approach and time taken.
We look for
Realistic numbers, nothing important missed, and practical thinking about what can go wrong.
06CommunityKeep Build 2026 participants active for 30 days.No AI
Task
Hackyard Build 2026 just ended. Write a 30-day plan to keep its participants active and connected. Then write the first 3 messages you'd send to the community group.
Submit
Google Doc link, and a short note on your approach and time taken.
We look for
Ideas people would actually join, low effort for members, and messages with a friendly, human tone.
07Something elseFind what Hackyard is missing, then start building it.No AI
Task
Tell us one thing Hackyard should be doing that it isn't. Then do a small first piece of it, such as a prototype, a plan, a design, a post or a list of leads.
Submit
Your idea (max 150 words), a link to what you made, and how long it took.
We look for
An idea that matters for Hackyard, and proof that you can act on it, not just suggest it.
Ground rules
Use AI as little as possible.
We're looking for exceptional people, and we want to see how you think, not what an AI produces.
No AI at all for design, writing or planning. That covers the Design, Content & Marketing, Partnerships & Sales, Events & Operations, Community and generalist tasks, and your answers on the form.
Engineering: looking things up, debugging and small snippets are OK. Write the core logic yourself and make systems your own.
Shortlisted candidates walk us through their work live. If we find AI-generated or copied work, you'll be disqualified and barred from all Hackyard events and future opportunities.
We use AI at Hackyard every day. This rule is only for the trial task, because we need to see your own thinking.
- Your own work.
Don't copy someone else's work.
- Clear thinking over polish.
A simple, finished task beats an ambitious, unfinished one.
- A paid trial, not a test.
Shortlisted candidates get a 30-minute call, then a paid 2-week trial sprint.
